What you’ll be able to do — competencies
- Plan and manage federal estates
- Utilize asset valuation, estate tax deductions, exemptions and credit
- Develop a working knowledge of, and an ability to apply various lifetime transfer devices including gifts, gifts in trust, qualified transfers, SCINs, private annuities, CRTs and GRTs
- Develop a basic understanding of trusts created inter vivos and mortises causa, the application of trusts from a management reservation view and from a split interest view as well as a creditor attack perspective—and apply that knowledge to financial planning client situations
- Develop a thorough understanding of how taxes affect marital deduction planning and how over- and under- utilization would impact the client
- Integrate a client’s estate plan into the comprehensive financial plan
Course description
The sixth and final module of the series, prior to the Capstone, this course covers planning and managing federal estates, as well as gift tax planning and opportunities. The perspectives of heirs, fiduciaries, estates, trusts, beneficiaries, donors and donees are considered.
Course topics include asset valuation, estate tax deductions, exemptions and credits. Significant time is given to the transfer of amount at death and the dispositive tools available to clients.
Pre-requisites
- Students should have acquired knowledge in accounting, financial calculator protocol, finance, and economics, through extensive job experience
- Students are presented with real world experiences along with curriculum
