Course Description
This course provides an essential introduction to Human Resources (HR) and U.S. Employment Laws, making it ideal for both HR professionals and people leaders. Students will explore how employment laws impact HR and management functions, strategies to prevent workplace discrimination, harassment and retaliation, and essential legal compliance practices for organizations. Key topics also include HR roles, functions, and trends; aligning HR strategies with organizational goals; the globalization of HR practices; the Society for Human Resources Management (SHRM); and navigating the complexities of managing a global workforce.
Engaging activities and real-world examples reinforce learning, while practical resources equip students to apply their knowledge in HR and managerial roles. Aligned with the SHRM Body of Knowledge, students are eligible to receive 8.25 SHRM Professional Development Credits (PDCs). Together, HR Foundations, Performance Management and Talent Management courses prepare students for HR roles such as HR Specialist, HR Coordinator, and HR Generalist.

Holding both SHRM-SCP and PHR certifications, she brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom with a 19-year career in HR and management spanning the healthcare, energy, and banking industries. She has experience in multiple HR functions including employee relations, leader coaching, onboarding, FMLA/ADA facilitation, recruiting, and benefits administration.
