Course 2:  Benefit Basics

  • Identify key terminology that applies to the world of benefits
  • Recognize the types of benefits plans and distinguish between mandatory and optional benefit programs
  • Understand the key components of state and federally regulated programs such as COBRA, ERISA, FMLA and HIPAA
  • Learn future trends in benefit planning and the potential impact on benefit costs
  • Review the key benefit families and the benefit options available in each category
  • Use research skills to identify benefits in the news, and to expand knowledge in benefits outside the classroom

The newly updated, SHRM(R) Essentials of Human Resources provides foundational HR Knowledge and incorporates components of the SHRM BASK. It provides insights into the standards for knowledge, strategies and competencies required of effective HR professionals around the world. SHRM(R) Essentials is ideal for those who are new to HR, as well as small-business owners, managers and professionals with HR responsibilities.

Benefits are an important facet of HR and can be complicated. Gain an overview and essential building blocks to understanding benefits packages, including knowledge of mandatory benefits and the difference between voluntary and regulated benefit plans.

She holds Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration and Master’s degree in Education and Human Resource Studies. She is SHRM Senior Certified Professional (SHRM-SCP) and Professional in Human Resources (PHR).
