Program description
This certificate program course provides a comprehensive introduction to technical writing, focusing on the skills, tools, and best practices needed to create effective, user-centered communication in professional and technical contexts. Students will learn to distinguish technical writing from other forms of writing and understand the roles and responsibilities of a technical writer as an information designer, content strategist, and user advocate.
The course emphasizes planning and composing technical documentation—such as procedures, manuals, and guides—based on audience analysis, process mapping, and accessibility principles. Students will explore how to use AI tools to support the planning, drafting, and refinement of technical content, while applying industry best practices to ensure clarity, usability, and inclusivity.
Additionally, students will be introduced to fundamental web technologies, including HTML, XML, and CSS, and their role in structuring, styling, and delivering technical content in digital formats. Students who successfully complete this course will have the skills to plan and develop user-centered deliverables that meet professional standards.
