Getting started in the high-tech industry

July 17, 2023

Greetings from the Interim Director of Technology Programs and Instructor, Murray Law. Fall will soon be here, a great time to get your technical skills started with course offerings at Tombolo. This year, tech job openings in the state are projected to increase by nearly 4%, one of the largest increases projected in the U.S., according to a recently released report by CompTIA, one of the IT industry’s top trade associations.

Training is the lifeblood of any IT career. If you’re getting started, most of our programming and database courses require no prerequisites other than general PC knowledge. The benefits of non-credit courses at Tombolo offer less commitment and open registration up to one week prior to the start date. Get started now.

Getting started in Programming & Testing

Learning to program gives a solid foundation to your technical toolkit. Tombolo Institute has 3 levels of Python, the world’s most popular programming language. Beginning with Programming with Python: 1, you’ll learn the fundamentals by creating simple applications before going on to more advanced topics such as Object-Oriented programming and creating user-friendly applications with a Graphical User interface.

Tombolo Institute has multiple levels of C# courses suitable for beginning to intermediate programmers. Our courses have recently been updated to match the latest version of Microsoft’s popular Visual Studio programming environment.

Software testing is a huge part of the software development cycle. Tombolo Institute has two courses, Principles of Software Testing and Test Planning, Modeling and Reporting. These courses could be taken by any technical professional to gain expertise in this important and often neglected area of application development.

Certificate Programs: C# Programming, Software Test Engineer

Getting started in Data & Analytics

Database skills are in demand. If a career in database sounds interesting, Tombolo Institute offers introductory and advanced courses using Microsoft’s SQL Server. You’ll learn to create queries to store and retrieve data, construct database objects such as tables and views, and learn the basics of SQL server administration.

For a short introductory course on either application programming or database fundamentals, Tombolo Institute offers Basic Programming Essentials and Relational Database Essentials. Both courses are just twelve hours in length but provide a good overview and introduction to the skills that employers are looking for.

Certificate program: Database Business Intelligence Developer

We’re excited to be back to live classroom training for many of our courses. We’ve moved from North Campus near Bridle Trails to the main Bellevue College campus just off I-90. I hope this switch makes it more convenient for you to take our courses. We’re looking forward to seeing you!
