Bellevue College Continuing Education is offering a new Human Resources (HR) Short Course Series this Winter starting in January 2025! Short courses let you learn the fundamentals and advanced topics quickly in an accelerated/intensive format. Take one to quickly learn about a specific HR function, a combination of short courses relevant to your role, or all three to help prepare for roles such as HR Specialist, HR Coordinator, and HR Generalist.

HR Foundations
This 1.5-week short course introduces essential HR and US Employment Law knowledge. Great for new HR professionals, people leaders, or people responsible for the HR functions in small to mid-size businesses.
Students learn essential employment laws and regulations, compliance practices, and strategies to help prevent workplace discrimination, harassment, and retaliation. Also covers key HR roles, functions, and trends, and issues.
Performance Management
This 1.5-week short course explores the critical function of performance management in an organization, including learning and development, employee relations, and labor relations.
Designed for people managers and HR professionals, this program dives into employee development, training design and methods, organizational development, performance management systems, appraisals, and progressive discipline. This short course also introduces labor relations, the union-organizing process, collective bargaining, grievance procedures, and the legal landscape of labor-management relations.
Talent Management
This 2-week short course explores talent acquisition, total rewards, and HR administration. Ideal for hiring managers and HR professionals, this course covers recruiting strategies, employer branding, conducting legally compliant interviews, addressing interviewer bias, and optimizing onboarding and orientation processes for employee retention.
Additionally, it explores the fundamentals of compensation and benefits programs, employee leave management, and HR administration topics like HR metrics, record-keeping responsibilities, reporting and posting requirements, OSHA compliance, and promoting a healthy work environment.
SHRM CP/SCP Exam Power Prep
Jumpstart your exam preparation with our in-person accelerated 2-day course. This intensive short course is held over two Saturdays, includes 18 months of access to the SHRM Learning System, and is designed to quickly prepare you for exam success! Your enrollment includes the SHRM Learning system online portal and print books (a $1,180 value) with learning modules, practice questions, sample exams, interactive study tools, instructional videos, flashcards, and additional exam prep resources.
This course delves into situational judgment questions, explains how questions are crafted, and helps you master answering them using SHRM knowledge and behavioral competencies. You’ll gain experience with SHRM-CP/SCP exam questions and develop a personalized study plan based on your knowledge assessments and timeline. You also receive 18 months of access to the SHRM Learning System® to help you continue preparing for exam day.

Holding both SHRM-SCP and PHR certifications, Allison is a leader in Human Resources. With a deep understanding of business principles and educational strategies, Allison is equipped to effectively teach and mentor future HR professionals and business leaders.
Allison brings a wealth of knowledge and expertise to the classroom with a 19-year career in HR and management spanning the healthcare, energy, and banking industries. Allison has experience in multiple HR functions including employee relations, investigations, leader coaching and development, onboarding and training, FMLA/ADA facilitation, recruiting, and benefits administration. This background ensures that Allison can provide students with practical insight and real-world application of HR theories and practices.
